Grenade Carb Killa Protein Bar Fudge Brownie flavour is the first Grenade Nutrition product that I have ever tried. It’s not worth buying one if you’ve got long-term goals that will not be highly influenced by one protein bar. Protein bars are meant to used as on-the-go high protein snacks. They are usually low in calories, not being more than 300 calories.
Grenade has undergone some rebranding and this flavour is no longer available. Their Fudged Up flavour is a close alternative. They both have a fudge-flavoured brownie centre, a gooey caramel layer, chunky dark chocolate chips and coated in milk chocolate.
Personal Experience of Grenade Fudge Brownie Protein Bar
It is a sweet protein bar that is high in protein. My weakness is chocolate flavoured anything and this ticks that box because of its flavour. It is quite expensive starting at around R50 in the stores. You are better off buying a tub of protein powder, unless it’s an occasional purchase.
The protein bar is delicious and I’m a chocolate lover, so anything with that colour, shape and taste has got me hooked. Since it was the fudge brownie flavour that I got, there was 99,9% chance that I was gonna like it.
They have 215 calories and are called carb killas for that reason and because they only have about 1.5 g of carbs that are impact carbs, while the net carbs is 13.6 g. The rest of that carbs are polyols, which are low-calorie sugar replacements that are used to add to their sweetness.
I appreciate the protein bar for tasting like a chocolate but feel like a scoop of protein powder. This helps you enjoy it guilt-free.
Effectiveness As a High Protein Snack
It was a filling protein bar with it keeping me full for about two hours before I slept. It is a worthwhile snack before your next meal, especially if you are on-the-go. A high protein snack must be able to sustain hunger, yet provide sufficient protein, either during the day or post-workout.
There is a milk protein blend which completes its protein content and is about the same as your general protein powder serving, being 23 g, so it would do well as a quick post-workout snack to get that protein in recover your muscles.
It has about 8 g of fat which has little impact on your body. It would be perfect for those wanting lose fat because it is low in calories, fat and carbs, but high in protein which is, depending on your diet plan, good for weight loss and maintenance.
Taste, Texture and Mixability
The quality of the product is amazing in terms of it’s texture, packaging to product correlation is on point. There is a fudge brownie center that is smooth, pretty sweet and clearly has the milk protein blend, while it has a layer above it of crème caramel and a layer above that of crunchy bits all coated in milk chocolate, making it burst with many different contrasts that make an explosion in the mouth.
I never mixed it with anything because it was just an evening snack before I slept, but I’ve seen Grenade and their product users posts, in which they mix the bars in yoghurts and oats. They also microwave the bars for a different experience. I haven’t tried any of these options but I’m sure that they are worth a try.
Value for Money
The price of the Grenade protein bar is about R55 depending on where you buy it, as you can get it online on Takealot, Dis-Chem and Makro. I feel that this is a pretty steep price range from the usual, but I guess the fact that it’s a UK brand that exchange rate and currency differences plays a huge part in it.
This is a great protein bar in terms of taste and being a filling enough snack when on the run, like I said earlier, it would be better suited for those on weight loss and maintenance long term goals, but would work well for those coming out of training or sports practice looking to feed the muscles with very little time to make a meal. It is of high quality and is registered in Informed Sports program, so athletes that are tested will not need to worry about illegal drugs being identified when tested.
Conclusion and Rating
Protein bars are meant to be on-the-go high protein snacks. They are usually low in calories and just like supplements, cannot replace a healthy and balanced diet. The Grenade Carb Killa is no different and it is usually best to not eat more than one per day. They can cause bloating if eaten too much in one day. These are delicious and definitely worth a try on-the-go. I rate them 8/10.

Thanks for sharing! I’m for the US so I’m not sure if this protein bar is offered here, but based on your reviews, it makes me want to give it a try. It’s hard to find a tasty and filling protein bar. That’s why I prefer protein shakes.

It’s a pleasure, it is definitely worth a try if you can find it. It wasn’t easy to find where I stay in SA either, but eventually I did and it was quite worth it.
